Call for Paper: The Second International Bridge Seismic Workshop (II IBSW), Nov. 17-19, 2017 in Shan

You are cardinally invited to submit an abstract and participate in the Second International Bridge Seismic Workshop to be held in Shanghai, China on November 17-19 (Friday to Sundy), 2017. This workshop is organized by the International Association Bridge Earthquake Engineering (IABEE), Washington, DC, USA, in collaboration with State Key Laboratory of Disaster Reduction in Civil Engineering, Tongji University, Shanghai, China.

Workshop Theme:

Seismic Resilience and Performance of Bridge Engineering

The theme of the conference is ‘Resilience and Performance’. The increasing traffic demands and safety requirements of our transportation infrastructure, and seismic performance/lessons learned from recent devastated earthquakes have changed of our design and maintain concept of bridge and tunnel structures to be more resilient and be performance-based in against with seismic hazards. Several significant bridge seismic engineering technology were developed, including Seismic Risk Assessment, Seismic Performance with New Materials (SMA, ECC and UHPC, etc), Rocking Foundation and Retrofitting Technology with relocation of plastic hinge zone, etc are great contributions to our bridge seismic engineering communities. It is very important that we, all around the world, work together to share the new technology developed and the lessons we learned from the past performance, so we can improve our seismic safety and resilience of our bridge engineering.

Contributions are invited in the areas including but not limited to:

  • Seismic Risk Analysis and Assessment

  • Seismic Retrofitting Technology

  • Long-Span Bridge Design

  • Lessons Learned from Recent EQ

  • Geotechnical Engineering

  • Preparedness and Emergency Management of Large Magnitude EQ

  • New Materials and Concepts

  • Connecting Details of Accelerated Bridge Construction

  • Seismic Resilience Design

  • Seismic Performance Based Design

Authors may consider the above listed areas; however if they wish to develop a special session around a specific topic, please e-mail yanxu@tongji.edu.cn.

Individuals may also register and attend the conference as a participant without submitting or presenting any work.

Instruction on Submitting Abstract(s):

Please submit an abstract with less 300 words to the workshop secretary-general, Dr. Helen Xu, by email at yanxu@tongji.edu.cn before May 15, 2017. The final full paper will be due on September 15, 2017.
